Surgical Instructions

At High Country Dental, we understand that dental surgery can be a source of anxiety for many patients, but with the right preparation and post-operative care, your recovery can be quick and smooth. Our team is dedicated to providing you with clear and thorough surgical instructions to help ensure that your experience is as comfortable as possible and that your healing process is effective.

Before Surgery

  1. Follow Pre-Surgery Instructions: If sedation or anesthesia is being used, you may be required to avoid eating or drinking for at least 8 hours before your procedure. We will provide specific guidelines based on the type of surgery you are undergoing.

  2. Arrange for Transportation: If sedation is used, it is important to have a friend or family member drive you to and from the appointment, as you may be drowsy afterward.

  3. Medication: If you are taking any medications, inform us before your surgery so we can determine if any adjustments are needed.

After Surgery

  1. Managing Bleeding: Slight bleeding is normal after surgery. Bite gently on the gauze provided, and change it as necessary. If bleeding persists, bite on a moistened tea bag for 30 minutes.

  2. Pain Relief: Take prescribed or over-the-counter pain medications as directed. Apply an ice pack to reduce swelling for the first 24 hours, following a 20-minute on and off pattern.

  3. Diet: Stick to soft foods and avoid hot or spicy items for the first few days. Stay hydrated, but avoid using straws as the suction can disrupt the healing process.

  4. Oral Hygiene: Avoid brushing the surgical site for the first day. After 24 hours, gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water to promote healing.
